Severe Suffering is an online resource to enable those involved in the use of animals in research to avoid causing severe suffering to their research animals.

The site provides information and resources for scientists, animal technologists and vets, and members of animal welfare/ethics committees on topics including refinement, welfare assessment, cumulative severity and humane endpoints.

It was developed by the (UK) Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), the (UK) Laboratory Animal Science Association (LASA), The (UK) Laboratory Animals Veterinary Association (LAVA) and the Institute of Animal Technology (IAT). Copyright is retained by the RSPCA.

This resource will be of benefit to all those involved in the care and use of laboratory animals. It can also be used in the education and training of personnel and for continued professional development.
