Guiding Principles for Supervision and Assessment of Competence as required under EU and UK Legislation (2nd Edition, 2016) provides guidance on the legislative and ethical requirements for individuals undertaking studies using research animal in the UK and European Union. It includes guidance for trainers, supervisors, record keeping and the continuous assessment of competency.

These guiding principles were developed by the Education and training Section of the Laboratory Animal Science Association. Copyright is retained by this organisation.

This resource will be of use to individuals who use research animals in the UK and EU, and those involved in training or supervising such individuals. It will also provide guidance in good practice for colleagues in other countries whose studies are governed their national legislation.
