Recording Field Potentials From Zebrafish Larvae During Escape Responses is a journal article describing a laboratory session in which students record field potentials during escape responses in larval zebrafish.
This article describes husbandry and care of the zebrafish, the experimental equipment and resources required and student protocols. Details of low-cost equipment and software options are also provided. Students gain experience of electrophysiological measurements, knowledge and understanding of a wide range of neurosciences topics, the use of the zebrafish as a non-mammalian alternative, research design, data analysis and interpretation. Use of these procedures in more advanced educational settings is also described.
It was developed by Dr Monesson-Olson and colleagues, Amherst College, MA, USA and is published in the Journal of Undergraduate Neuroscience Education (Monesson-Olson et al. (2014) JUNE 13 (1): A52-A58). Copyright is retained by the journal.
This laboratory session can be used in undergraduate student education as part of a larger in-vivo neurobiology course.
