Blood sampling is a microsite which provides information, both as guidance notes and short video tutorials, on blood sampling in research animals. It includes sections on the general principles, vascular catheters, and sampling in nine species from rodents to marmosets, covering surgical, non-surgical and terminal methods, including removal of blood from veins, arteries, by cannulation, by cardiac puncture and by decapitation.

The original resources were collated by GlaxoSmithKline. Following their donation to the NC3Rs, they have been developed with the assistance of colleagues from the Institute of Animal Technology, academia, industry and animal welfare organisations. Copyright is retained by the NC3Rs

This microsite is suitable, both for training of new researchers, and a reference resource for more experienced colleagues
