This resource will be of benefit to those who use laboratory animals, design or publish studies involving laboratory animals, or those involved in the education and training of researchers. It could also be used as a checklist during the actual design of research studies.
Undergraduate and Taught Masters Research Animal Sciences curricula
This resource could be used in the delivery of the following Learning Outcomes:
- Appropriate reporting standards for sharing of research
- The concept that research animal welfare impacts upon reproducibility and reliability of data
Students could be provided with a copy of these guidelines and a published scientific paper, and asked to determine how many of these points had been included in the paper. This could then lead onto a discussion of what additional information would need to be provided, particularly with regard to animal welfare etc, to enable the studies to be reproduced. Alternatively, they could be used just to illustrate these Learning Outcomes in a teaching session.
